Intellectual Capital and performance: Mediating role of Supply Chain integration

Abstract/Description

Purpose: This study develops the topics related to Intellectual Capital and its association with supply chain partners. A vast majority of the literature on Intellectual Capital, Supply Chain Integration and Supply Chain Operational Performance is considered in the context of foreign countries. These learnings are then applied to fill the gap of similar studies with respect to the Pakistan perspective in the Automotive manufacturing sector.

Design/Methodology: The data was collected through a structured survey questionnaire adapted from previous studies that were relevant to this topic. The target industry is the Automotive industry of Pakistan and particularly its supply chain professional data. Judgmental sampling is used to select respondents.

Findings: The findings emanating from the tests show that Intellectual Capital has a significant impact on the Operational Performance of Supply Chains in the Automotive Industry. The results exhibit that there is a significant impact of supply chain integration on its Operational Performance except in the case of Information Flow Integration. The findings of this model also show that Intellectual Capital have a significant positive impact on the SCI dimensions and also on SCOP but as a whole, individual dimensions of SCI do not possess any significant change on the Operational Performance of the Supply Chain.

Research Limitations: The data was collected from automotive section of Pakistan, without regarding the size of firm and it shows that the intellectual capital has a significant influence on supply chain operations performance.

Practical Implication: The findings will be able to shed new light on how to make decisions with respect to supply chain integration as a critical factor in improving the supply chain performance in the Automotive sector. Originality/value A few studies have already been referenced from the automotive sector of Pakistan. This study provides insights to Automotive managers with regard to the importance of Intellectual capital and supply chain integration for improving the performance of organizations.
