The dark side of AI: The impact of unemployment risk perception on employee wellbeing and performance

Abstract/Description

Disruptive technologies are adopted at a great pace in modern business organizations. Though this technological disruptions have many positive consequences however understanding on how employees are experiencing these disruptions at workplace is limited. Hence, this study examines how employee experiences of disruptive technologies such as unemployment risk perception are influencing employees’ wellbeing, and performance. To test the proposed model the authors have used a survey method approach where data were collected through survey from IT employees in Pakistan. The results revealed that employee experiences of disruptive technologies such as unemployment risk perception is influencing employees’ wellbeing, and employee wellbeing mediates between the relationships of employee experiences of disruptive technologies such as unemployment risk perception and employee work performance. The theoretical and practical implications of the findings are discussed.
