Environment needs a lift! Focus on thrift. A new mantra of the younger generation

Abstract/Description

Thrift shopping was traditionally studied as a practice undertaken in the formal retail setting only as an economic function i.e. to save money and other financial resources. In recent years, the lens to view thrift shopping has changed and it is not viewed just as an economic function utilized by low-income groups only in retail settings anymore but also accepted by affluent customers specifically the younger generation (Generation-Z) on both online and offline platforms because they are concerned about the environment, production and reproduction issues and “green” consumption practices. The motivations that this younger generation acknowledges include their responsibility towards society, concerns related to climate change, saving money, and a better and more sustainable environment for future generations. They believe that “sustainable consumption” is the only way to protect the environment and climate where future generations will prosper which is achievable also through thrift shopping.
