Abstract

Industry 4.0 has been in the spotlight for some time now with radical innovations in the manufacturing and service industries. Research on industry 4.0 focusing on supply chain management has grown since the inception of this term in 2011. However, there have been very few SLRs in this area, and no study has identified the major themes in the area, along with the methodological rigor analysis to review the existing literature extensively. However, to fill this gap, we synthesize research in this area through a systematic literature review of 76 relevant articles taken from Web of Science and Scopus on industry 4.0 and supply chain from 2011. We identified that the most rigorous study scored 13 out of 19. This suggests that rigorous research in this area is yet to be established. Furthermore, we present the most prominent themes identified in this domain. Industry 4.0 technologies and applications have been the highlight of research themes with Industry 4.0 adoption and barriers to it. Also, we found that less research has been done from developing countries' perspectives. This study will help policymakers and practitioners in decision-making regarding industry 4.0 technologies adoption and identify the barriers, and drivers to it. Also, the study paves the way for future researchers to investigate industry 4.0 from a developing markets' and service industry's perspective.
