Abstract / Summary
Pakistan's burgeoning population is expected is expected to touch 200 million mark within the next few years; hence the total demand for food preparation products in Pakistan is expected to increase exponentially. As a result, the relevant companies have to take into account such demographically exponentially changes and adapt their strategies accordingly. Similarly, Shan Foods has been contemplating to such an increase. The current central warehouse located in Korangi is being over utilized and it may reach its saturation point in a couple of years. In order to ascertain the industry-wide warehouse practices and competitiveness of the major players in the supply chain industry, a detailed comparative analysis was carried out. This study consisted of Shan Foods along with National Foods, Metro and Nestle. These companies were evaluated based on qualitative factors such as law order, material handling and equipment etc. (Please refer to Appendix 1). According to the findings of the study, Shan was ranked third among the sample of four, with its main competitor National Foods slightly ahead of it. Shan Foods has an edge over others in areas such as lead time and responsiveness and capacity utilization, but it lags behind in areas such as material handling, inventory management and safety standards.
