Abstract
.The concept of learning analytics has been around and playing fundamental role in learning mechanisms since the time when mass education allowed educators to collect data of learner’s performance in order to set and improve exam benchmarks and learning content. In the recent era when e-learning systems aimed at providing student with online access to learning content continue to grow, there is an abundant amount of learning and engagement data. The constructive use of that data is still a fledging field in which researchers are coming up with new and innovative analytical approaches with each passing day.
This report aims to summarize narratives and findings from scholarly articles on different types of digital learning and technology enabled learning initiatives including use of electronic devices and virtual learning environments/platforms and current practices in research on implementations of data analytics around the world, which can benefit any individual for coming up to pace with this research topic. It gives description and importance of main approaches used for data mining and analytics in educational ecosystem while at the same time briefly discussing the role of technology acceptance and other factors that impact student performance in online learning.
The gist of this report explores a simple data analysis approach implemented on e-learning dataset to monitor trends and insights in student learning outcomes for strategic decision making and policy design. The data analysis example is included in the report to illustrate how easily organizations can utilize available data to come up with informative insights that can prove to be much helpful for answering a wide range of questions for various stakeholders.
