Abstract
Machine learning and its subsets have gained significant attention and growth in the last decade, especially the field of deep learning. From image analytics to natural language processing, deep learning models are at the heart of countless applications in a variety of industries. Deep Convolutional Neural Networks have shown remarkable performance at solving computer vision problems. As their potential continues to be proven by their ability to exceed human performance, they have started seeing use in the medical industry as well. Herein we provide a short overview of deep learning and a survey of the problems tackled by applying CNNs in healthcare, with a particular focus on magnetic resonance images. We also discuss the overall challenges associated with using these models in a healthcare environment.
