SBS Thought Leadership Area Justification

The Experiential Learning Program (ELP) project with Quadri Group represents a rigorous application of Strategic Brand Management and Brand Equity Assessment within a B2B context. The project evaluates how corporate reputation, service reliability, and relationship management translate into a premium market position and long-term client loyalty. By executing extensive field research across diverse trading hubs in Karachi spanning from high-end institutional clusters in Korangi to decentralized retail markets in Orangi Town, the study assesses the strength of the brand's market associations and its influence on commercial purchasing decisions. Critical operational drivers, including supply chain efficiency, margin satisfaction, and customer experience touchpoints, were systematically diagnosed to measure the brand's current value. Ultimately, this comprehensive market analysis translates raw field insights into a high-level strategic roadmap, demonstrating how targeted brand equity assessments can optimize distribution channels and secure a sustainable competitive advantage.

GOAL 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

Aligned SDGs Justification

By strengthening Quadri Group's market positioning and brand equity, the project directly fosters local economic resilience and job security within Karachi's industrial ecosystem. For instance, when a prominent local enterprise optimizes its distribution channels and stabilizes its supply chain, it guarantees consistent bulk orders for small-scale suppliers and raw material vendors, such as the specialized shoe material retailers in Orangi Town or industrial clusters in Korangi. This commercial stability prevents layoffs, protects the livelihoods of manufacturing and logistics laborers, and retains capital within the local market rather than losing it to foreign competitors. Ultimately, empowering a homegrown corporate brand creates a stabilizing ripple effect that secures employment, sustains secondary trade networks, and continuously drives local economic growth.

Abstract

This Experiential Learning Project (ELP) report analyzes the strategic positioning of Quadri Group, a legacy player with a 65-year history of supplying adhesives, insole boards, and rubber sheets to Karachi’s fragmented B2B shoe manufacturing clusters. Moving beyond traditional brand diagnostics, the study uncovers a structural phenomenon termed the “Quadri Paradox.” While clientele exhibit absolute brand trust and zero quality complaints, the company suffers severe revenue and market share leakages at price-sensitive retail nodes like Liaquatabad and Orangi Town. Using a qualitative multimarket triangulation design—combining semi-structured interviews with supply chain mapping—the study identifies three execution gaps blocking total market capture: a retail margin crisis (net margins at a stifling 2–3%), stock-out rates of 15–20% caused by lumpy import waves against steady demand, and active channel conflict from unmitigated direct-to-workshop selling.

Grounded in David Aaker’s Brand Equity Framework, the report demonstrates that downstream loyalty remains highly transactional and operationally constrained. To bridge these gaps, an integrated system is proposed featuring three core interventions and seven accountability systems: a tiered wholesale volume rebate matrix, a multi-tier safety buffer inventory system to slash stock-outs below 5%, and technical “Yield Guarantee” ROI calculators to counter inflationary down-trading. Financial modeling indicates that a Year 1 investment of 33.85M PKR (5.64% of a 600M PKR revenue base) will yield an incremental top-line recovery of 44M PKR in Year 1 and 104M PKR in Year 2, offering a 12-to-18-month payback period. Ultimately, this report provides an operational roadmap to transform an exposed market leader into an unassailable market monolith.
