Abstract
This Experiential Learning Project (ELP) by IBA Karachi and Brookes Pharma was designed to address a critical gap in the company's financial operations, where reporting was managed through manual, fragmented, and Excel based processes across departments. The project suggested the creation of a centralized Financial Analytics Platform as a Management Information System (MIS) which will consolidate financial data, increase the management visibility and enable data driven decision making.
The project was divided into six phases. The first phase was a requirements and data review to identify missing and available data, and establish the analytical scope of the MIS. The second phase was devoted to the development of ERD where a star schema data model was designed applying Kimball's dimensional modelling methodology, including four dimension tables and six fact tables related to sales, expenses, payables, accounts receivable, inventory and production. In Phase 3, an interactive nine-page Power BI dashboard was created, which included sales performance, product analysis, export and receivables, revenue and cost monitoring, payables analytics, inventory management, and production efficiency. Phase 4 built a Python rule engine to compare the KPI values to the thresholds defined by the user and categorize exceptions as Critical Alerts, Alerts and Normal items, for daily, weekly and monthly reporting cycles. Phase 5 automated the reporting task using the rule engine and Outlook, to generate structured management emails with screenshots of dashboards and exception driven analysis. The system was validated in Phase 6, covering aspects of data accuracy, rule logic, and workflow.
