SBS Thought Leadership Areas
Entrepreneurship and Innovation
SBS Thought Leadership Area Justification
Though the human resource management, policy writing, and onboarding matrices are viewed
through the lens of the strictly corporate, administrative lens, the implementation of the
frameworks in the scaling legacy company is an entrepreneurial and innovative process in itself.
Innovation does not solely concern the design or technology of the products, but also so-called
administrative innovation, the reorganization of internal processes of an enterprise, which opens
new opportunities and allows it to develop in a sustainable way. In the case of an organization
such as K Flex which has been in a position to expand its production capacity since 1957, yet
which has informal human capital pipelines, radical cultural and administrative change is needed
to facilitate the shift to a more institutionalized system.
Aligned SDGs
GOAL 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
Aligned SDGs Justification
Modernization of the production equipment cannot be the foundation of sustainable development
of an industrial economy; it should be accompanied by the simultaneous investment in the
organization systems of the human factor. The informal employment practices in the
manufacturing sector in Pakistan are more likely to subject the workers to unorganized working
6conditions where expectations are not clearly spelt out, job specifications are not written and
performance is dealt with on a case by case basis. The current project is closely connected to
SDG 8 Target 8.5 that aims at ensuring that all women and all men are safely and gainfully
employed and have decent work and have access to industrial work that is secure and merit-
based.

Abstract
The shift of the traditional industrial companies in Pakistan towards formalized corporate forms,
out of the centralized, family-run operations, is a pivotal step towards the survival and growth in
the long term in the modern macroeconomic environment of the country. This Experiential
Learning Project (ELP) is specifically aimed at the transition and is known as Enhancing HR
Recruitment and Onboarding Frameworks in K Flex (Pvt.) Ltd. K Flex (Pvt.) Ltd. is an established
company that produces flexible packaging solutions and its history dates back to its inception in
1957. The company operates a large production plant in A-70 S.I.T.E Area, Karachi that is involved
in bulk production of precision conversion of polymers into specialized products, such as High-
Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE), Polypropylene (PP/BOPP),
and Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) shrink solutions. Throughout the decades, K Flex has been able to
constantly incorporate the latest machinery and develop a highly qualified technical staff to protect
its market share in a very competitive industrial industry.
The pace at which the manufacturing business of K Flex has so far grown to give it more than 500
employees has essentially been quicker than the maturity of its administrative and human
resource system. Previously, the firm had an ad-hoc and relationship based human capital
management. This relational model has been a cause of unbearable inefficiencies to the
enterprise level of the company despite giving an operational flexibility to the small-scale decades
of the company.
