Topological-Data-Analysis (TDA) is an emerging field that provides topological and geometrical insights to uncover relevant patterns for high dimensional complex datasets. This paper briefly introduces the framework of TDA which covers the basic approaches for construction of combinatorial representation of the data points and the relevant tools to analyze them. Finally, this paper also provides some practical applications for TDA which includes identification of a subtype of breast-cancer and voting patterns for US-House of-Representatives.


TDA is an active research area and it gaining popularity as we are going into an age where data is a very essential commodity. AYASDI is one of the leading AI platform working on TDA. There are many other research centers where work on TDA is in progress. Between 50 to 100 researchers are working on theoretical foundations along with 200 to 300 researchers that are working on applications of TDA (Fasy 2016).
