Abstract
Purpose: This paper, therefore, aims to thoroughly investigate the transition process within the E&P sector by focusing on key industry players in the market. We intend to comprehend the threats and risks that may impede or adversely impact this transition, specifically, from well drilling to the start of production. We will be exploring the process of transition and the key challenges and risk factors attached to this process. Methodology: A qualitative study was conducted with thematic analysis. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews from 12 respondents of major E&P companies. Findings: The study was able to identify the stages involved in the handover process, along with the key risk factors that may hinder the transition process altogether. A standardized checklist with SOPs has been proposed to help E&P companies streamline this process. Originality/Value: This study is the first to investigate the handover process in the E&P sector of developing economies, and the risk factors involved in the process.
