Abstract / Summary
This study examines the effectiveness and challenges of the Internal Mobility (IM) Program at Foodpanda Pakistan, initiated in 2021, aimed at enhancing employee development, engagement, and retention by providing growth opportunities within the organization. The research was conducted through interviews and surveys, focusing on key stakeholders such as HR representatives, line managers, and IM program participants.
Key findings highlight that Foodpanda’s IM program has facilitated over 60% of internal hires, particularly for junior roles, contributing to significant cost and time savings compared to external recruitment. Internal recruitment was shown to reduce hiring costs by approximately 13.5 million PKR annually, largely through lower advertising, administrative, and onboarding expenses. Additionally, the program has resulted in faster filling of positions, improved employee satisfaction, and higher retention rates, particularly among Millennials and Gen Z employees.
However, challenges include skill mismatches, managerial resistance, and difficulties in transitioning employees between departments. Moreover, the program revealed potential drawbacks such as loss of team cohesion and lack of fresh perspectives due to reliance on internal hiring. Recommendations include aligning managerial incentives with organizational goals and increasing transparency and support in the transition process.
Overall, Foodpanda’s IM program has demonstrated substantial benefits in talent retention, cost efficiency, and employee satisfaction, although certain strategic adjustments are recommended to maximize its effectiveness.
