Abstract / Summary
Hackathons are employed when an organization wants to pool ideas related to a topic or issue that it is facing. The ideas are generated by several participants who act within teams, and in a given time, to come up with unique and innovative solutions that can be used by the host organization or for a commercial startup. Each organization uses different parameters and standard operating procedures for conducting hackathons; there is no universal manual or guideline for conducting them. Therefore, the goal is to develop a document which would contain instructions and guidelines for conducting a hackathon.
The scope of this research will be limited to local (Pakistani) environment, and the target organizations will be those in the academic circle. For this study, the hackathons conducted by Aga Khan University’s ‘Critical Creative Innovative Thinking (CCIT)’ will be used as a case study.
The steps involved in the process of conducting these hackathons will be listed down, while comparison will be done with research data available from international studies. The outcome will be a manual that can be used by any local organization to conduct hackathons effectively.
