Executive Summary

Pakistan, type 2 diabetes affects approximately 32 million adults, making it a rising health concern. Due to a sharp rise in the disease's incidence, Pakistan is now one of the most affected nations. It is now difficult to manage type 2 diabetes because of a number of socioeconomic and healthcare infrastructural issues. Patients face major obstacles due to the high costs of diabetes management and low level of diabetic awareness. Advanced diabetic drugs and insulin are costly. Individuals with diabetes have a substantial financial burden due to their high out-of-pocket medical expenses and the fact that over 24% of the population lives in poverty. In Pakistan, structural and economic problems impede the availability of insulin, impacting approximately 19.4 million individuals with diabetes. A low-income household's monthly insulin expenses could make up as much as 30% of their whole income. Only over 50% of public health facilities have a regular supply of insulin, which exacerbates supply chain issues. Diabetic care is made even more difficult to access by inadequate healthcare facilities and a shortage of trained staff, particularly in rural locations. Resolving these issues requires focused approaches. It is critical to implement educational programs that help people become more aware of their diabetes and develop management strategies. Diabetes management can be enhanced by interactive training sessions and culturally adapted teaching materials. Increasing the number of qualified healthcare workers and fortifying the healthcare infrastructure can both be very important. With its sizable worldwide market share and sophisticated production capabilities, Novo Nordisk can play a crucial role in helping Pakistan address its insulin accessibility problems. Novo Nordisk can contribute to lowering the price of insulin and ensuring its best storage and transportation by utilizing their economies of scale and cold chain logistics. The study's conclusion emphasizes the critical need for all-encompassing approaches to enhance diabetes care and low-cost insulin accessibility in Pakistan. To solve these issues and lessen the toll that diabetes has on individuals and the healthcare system, cooperation between pharmaceutical companies, medical experts, and the government is crucial.
