Executive Summary

The primary goal of this research is to determine the significance and viability of the Scrap yard Management System implemented as a pilot project for digitizing the manual scrap yard warehouse of Carriage Factory Islamabad and ascertaining the feasibility of expanding the pilot project throughout scrap yard warehouses in six other divisions of Pakistan Railways. Considering this goal, the following study has been able to analyze a number of important discoveries. Recent study has discovered that in this modern era of technology digitization has transformed the overall operational structure of organization leading to enhanced productivity, efficiency, and overall better working environment. The digital transformation of scrap yard warehouse of CFI has not only upgraded the skills of employees but has eased the complex manually handed operation module of warehouse to six simple steps curtailing operational cost, time saving and reduced labor force. Moreover, digitization of CFI scrap yard has also led to quick disposal of scrap through tender sale generating more revenue in less time.

Keeping in view the benefits gained through pilot project of CFI, the research study highlights that Pakistan Railways can enhance the productivity and efficiency of all its scrap yard warehouses through expansion of SMS system to the whole organization. It is hoped that research study through its recommendations will provide ample insight to Pakistan Railways for successful digital transformation of its warehouses in order to cope up with industry 4.0 revolution which is the need of hour for technological and economic development of Pakistan railways in the longer run
