In today’s media industry, television news channels are gaining its importance not globally but a significant growth of news channels has also been seen in Pakistan in recent years. It is a tact that among all other genres whether its entertainment, music, religion, sports, business, food, movie or health, News Channels have the highest viewership in Pakistan.
The main ingredient of a TV news channel is its news ticker which scrolls in the lower third area of the television screen. The objective ol the news ticker is to keep the viewers up-to-date with the latest news stories. The news ticker runs round the clock on the screen and without any disruption even during the commercial breaks. But continuous scrolling of the news ticker during commercial breaks disturbs the viewership of the advertisement and does not let the viewer concentrate on the ads.
This thesis report will examines the impact of the news ticker on the viewers and the reasons to keep it running during commercial breaks. The thesis will also analyze the broadcasters of news channels and the advertisers on the news tickers and will provide a conclusion on the basis of detailed analysis of the research and data findings.
