Executive Summary
The main objective is to study the impact of privatization on the performance of state owned enterprises (SOEs) in older to assist policy formulation in respect of privatization of SOEs especially in energy sector. This research the KESC with that of immediate pre privatization period.
Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) is one of the important public sector utilities due to its unique composite status, strategic position and significant role in national economy. It is the only integrated electric utility company in the private sector. It was privatized in the \ear area. Its services are extended to the city of Karachi having population of more than 20 million. Therefore, its performance in the post privatization period needs to be critically evaluated.
Primarily this research paper is based on analytical review of the documents and other relating to the privatization of KESC. Post privatization performance in relation to last privatization process, however, has been subjected to basic quantitative analysis, aiming at qualitative synthesis. Technical as well r ma financial data from the basic source trial penultimately KESC’s annual reports (certified by external auditors) have been utilized i as e i.e. in answering the basic hypotheses. This data when cross-matched with independent reasonably provide the sufficient basis for objective analysis of all the material issues realign to the post-privatization performance of KESC.
