Executive Summary
The notion of flexibility plays fundamental role in globalization of economies and development of organization and its human capital. Organizations make every effort to achieve incremental sustainability in profit, growth and innovation. They have developed core competencies to face internal and external challenges and to gain benefits of the opportunities.
Pharmaceutical industry sector is one of the developing sectors of Pakistan in fragile political d economical environment. Pakistan pharmaceutical industry comprises of both national and multinational organizations. Both multinational & national pharmaceutical market is almost evenly divided in terms of market share which including 45% and 55% respectively.
The present research project aims to examine the achievement of competitive advantage with respect to organizational flexibility. The results of the survey questionnaire are analyzed to assess the components of flexibility in pharmaceutical organizations including national and multinational.
GSK Pakistan has shown flexibility in strategy making, flexible in translating KPIs to their operational activities, NPI launch, and product flexibility against their market competitors. However competitors are found more flexible in adapting new technologies, new product launch and some areas of operational activities. They develop flexible policies; encourage powerment for their internal stakeholders. Both have developed structural frame work to cater foresee challenges. Comparatively GSK more inclined towards on transparency in em performance management and provide equal opportunity to employees working in the in organization. They primarily focus on talent succession planning, development and management to continuously build their leadership pipeline. Above mentioned attributes has made GSK is flexible and will provide sustainable competitive advantage against rest of the pharmaceutical industry of Pakistan.
