  • Family business transition : advice & cases on transition, succession & split by Rameez Khalid and Arif Iqbal Rana

Family business transition : advice & cases on transition, succession & split

Rameez Khalid and Arif Iqbal Rana

The authors of this book, Dr. Arif Iqbal Rana and Dr. Rameez Khalid, highlighted effectively how family businesses operate successfully in Pakistan. Their theoretical and practical knowledge and experience provide a basis from which family businesses can learn and operate creating sustainable and successful family business in Pakistan. They illustrate that, if family businesses are not managed appropriately, it may result in business failure and family conflict. The authors illustrated that if the family business is managed successfully, more socio-economic stability can be created. One of the critical issues highlighted for long-term success of family businesses is succession planning. Family businesses are especially vulnerable in the transition phase from one generation to the next. A smooth transition is often difficult to achieve. A lack of confidence, uncertainty and emotional baggage stemming from the child/parent relationship may ruin the most straightforward succession process. The authors provided clear examples on how successful succession can be achieved. The authors have written this book in such a format that it may act as practical guide for leaders within a family business.

  • Life and work of great economists by Shagufta Shabbar

Life and work of great economists

    Shagufta Shabbar

The field of Economics has changed considerably since Adam Smith's 18th century proposition of key ideas to understand the economy. Many economists have made note-worthy contributions and have incorporated ideas from other fields to make the Economics field richer. Due to their phenomenal work they have procured great respect and have exceeded the limits of normal human understanding. But what has led them to do this? How did they come up with the path breaking theories? How did they develop theories that changed the way economists understood the working of the economies of the world? How did they channel their motivation to develop the economics field-changing its trajectory? These questions led the students of IBA to try to understand the factors behind the development of some great theories by these great minds. We have limited knowledge of the lives of these economists and the experiences that shaped their philosophies. This work is an effort by the students of IBA to learn the lessons from their life and work. This book has been divided into five themes using many IDEAS RePEc which is an economics bibliographic database. It is important to mention here that these economists have done such influential work and in such diverse fields that categorizing their work under just one theme was a difficult task. To do justice to all the esteemed economists that are part of this book, we have taken into account which field the economist has done the most impactful work and then made the themes accordingly. We hope that this book will in turn inspirit readers to form their own ideas and track paths that will lead them to their own important contributions in economics.

  • Case Studies in Islamic Finance and Shari’ah Compliance by Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, Sarwat Ahson, and Shazia Farooq

Case Studies in Islamic Finance and Shari’ah Compliance

Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, Sarwat Ahson, and Shazia Farooq

The Centre of Excellence in Islamic Finance (CEIF) at IBA has published this book titled ‘Case Studies in Islamic Finance and Shari’ah Compliance’. The Global Islamic Economy is valued in excess of US$ 2.2 trillion , and the Islamic Finance Sector is expected to reach US$ 3.8 trillion by 2022 . The Islamic Finance Industry in Pakistan has recorded annual growth rate exceeding 14% over the past two decades, and is still on an upward growth trajectory. However, its share in the banking sector deposits is merely 14.5% . The industry has a lot of scope to expand Islamic nance outreach. This can be possible if the industry invests in and develops its own human resources and managerial capacity. Realizing the need for literature that is focused on application of Islamic Finance Industry practices across the globe, CEIF has made a modest attempt to bring together in this volume the case studies that would shed light on the practical application of the principles of Islamic Finance and Shari’ah Compliance. The book includes case studies on diverse range of topics, from basic to advanced level, which can be used to reinforce class room learning in Islamic Finance degree and training programs. Renowned industry practitioners, academicians and members of the distinguished research team at CEIF have contributed to this book. In its pursuit to encourage knowledge transfer, case studies by foreign authors have also been included to share their experiences with the local market. Shari’ah scholars further added to the richness of the content through their valuable insights and opinions on Shari’ah related matters.

  • Globalization, Governance and Growth by Ishrat Husain

    Globalization, Governance and Growth

    Ishrat Husain

This volume is a compilation of the articles, speeches and contributions made by the author on three topics- Globalization, Governance and Growth. Although on the surface it may appear as these were disparate and disconnected themes but careful reflection would demonstrate that there is a close link in relationship between them.

  • Chronicling excellence: a history of IBA by Sibtain Naqvi

Chronicling excellence: a history of IBA

    Sibtain Naqvi

The IBA history book, “Chronicling Excellence: A History of IBA", is an attempt to capture this history. There are defined eras and historical points of interest. The institution partnered with international institutions, shifted academic operations between three locations, started multiple programs and produced the leading industry captains of the country. It did all this with a minimal amount of resources and in a challenging and fluid environment. The idea was to produce a publication that would be both instructive and illustrative, that it would provide a holistic narrative that would be readable and serve as a guide for other institutions and policy makers.
