Abstract / Description

Pakistan’s Public Agriculture Research System comprises three distinct pillars: (i) Federal Government, (ii) Provincial Governments and (iii) Universities. A survey of research institutions existing throughout the country shows a total of 259 such institutions including 124 research stations and sub stations which are shown as independent entities by several institutes. If these stations and sub stations are excluded, there are 194 institutes, centers, directorates, divisions and sections—a large number of organizations with varying names and no uniform taxonomy. The Federal Government has 64 organizations, mostly under the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, while the provinces together have 156 institutions and the universities host 39.
