Abstract / Description

Chapter 16 presents the state of incubation industry in Pakistan. Using the 5P framework (Purpose, Patrons, Process, Potential, Pitfalls) a survey and assessment of more than 40 major incubation programs (including the flagship National Incubation Centers, Public University Incubators, Private University Incubators, Semi-government Autonomous University Incubators, Virtual Incubators, and Accelerator programs) is carried out using in-depth interviews of program managers; and the data is supplemented from secondary sources. This analysis of various incubator program models and their impact on incubated firms led to several insights, which are presented in the form of recommendations for government policy makers, university administrators and private sector stakeholders, with lessons for other developing countries like Pakistan.
