Abstract / Description

The purpose of this paper is two fold: firstly to provide erlpirical evidence from micro :raI"l'll data which suggests that redistri,.. bution of land from large farmers to small farmers is not only conS-1 istent with the above line of reasoning but additionally it has the potential of creating positive impact on utilisation of scarce re sources of the economy i.e. land and labor resulting in an increase in output and secondly to show that despite the existence of such economically'desirable' potential, the differential access to political & social power, institutions, credit, supplies and inputs in the less developed countries does pot permit this potentia.l to be realised .Hence the net result in actual practice is that, t.here are serious efficiency as well as 'welfare' losses to the economy.
