Description
The euphoria and mood of jubilation and exaltation in Pakistan, ignited by the recent events leading to restoration of civilian rule, provides both an opportunity as well as a challenge for setting a long term agenda and perspective for the country. Having lived virtually from day to day with pangs of anxiety, fears of uncertainity and feelings of despair, the people of this country need from the civilian rulers of Pakistan -"-- whether at the Centre or the Provinces --- specification of goals, a clear sense of future direction and a road map to guide them. Should, God forbid, our new set of rulers plunge themselves into petty jealously, rivalries, internal bickerings, short term political expediency and scoring points over each other, the survival of this country as a modern 20th-century state would be put to great strain.
