Description
Seventy-five years after independence, Pakistan’s education system remains fragmented and inequitable, with access and quality largely determined by socio-economic background. Public schools face high dropout rates and weak preparation, leaving underprivileged students disadvantaged at every transition point from K-12 to tertiary education. While enrolment in higher education has increased, true egalitarian access remains elusive, as meritocracy often favors the privileged. To achieve equitable outcomes, education planning must adopt a holistic, systemic approach that bridges stages, provides equalizers for disadvantaged students, and ensures alternative learning pathways. Without this, education will continue to reinforce class divides rather than enable social mobility.
