Abstract
Karachi presently reflects as a city facing a severe crisis of governance. Service delivery is very poor, institutions of civic governance seem incapable to deal with the problems, and the resulting impacts are serious on the citizens of the city. My research would aim to deconstruct this process of fragmentation in the context of urban governance that has social, political, and economic causes and implications. I would try to identify interfaces between the various aspects of urban fragmentation and the focus of my research would then be on determining where the key agency for city — the KMC (Karachi Metropolitan Corporation) is situated in all this. I would be looking at the KMC as the main body to run this city, it is the higher authority, and is responsible for everything within the city. I will be aiming to map the historical progression of the organization, from the time of creation of Pakistan to the present time.
