Abstract
This paper investigated the influence of peer relations on the academic achievement for students of grades t10 and 11 and whether or not there is a difference in terms of gender when discussing the influence of peer relations. The sample of the study included 160 students (82 males and 78 females) in total, with a total of 40 students per school, 20 per class. The sample was divided into 4 schools; Froebel Education Centre, Haque Academy, Convent of Jesus and Mary and The City School. A Pearson’s Correlation and Linear Regression was used to find a relationship between the two variables. The results of the study indicated a significant, but small influence of peer relations, almost 4%, on academic achievement. The influence was also looked at in terms of 4 predictors; school, age, gender and class. There was a significant difference in influence of peer relations in terms of gender and school. However, no difference was found in terms of age or class.
