Abstract

The tourism industry has become the economic reality of central Hunza. This senior year thesis aims to explore the socio-cultural transformation taking place in Central Hunza due to tourism. Additionally, this is an attempt to reveal the risks and consequences of tourism for the local community that are overshadowed by the economic impacts of tourism. Qualitative research method has been used to collect data from key stakeholders through semi-structured interviews and the key themes have been identified through thematic analysis. The findings demonstrate nuanced ways in which tourism has transformed daily life and community dynamics in the region. This comprehensive approach highlights the challenges that tourism presents to the Central-Hunza region and the serious need to make tourism practices sustainable.
