Abstract

This qualitative study explores the challenges faced by student mothers in Pakistan as they navigate the dual roles of motherhood and higher education. Utilising semi-structured interviews with women aged 18-28, the research identifies key themes including Time Management, Social Support, Emotional Well-being and Academic Achievement. The findings reveal that student mothers meticulously plan their daily routines to balance their academic responsibilities with parenting duties, often relying heavily on social support from family, particularly spouses and in-laws, as well as friends and institutional resources. Despite significant barriers such as time constraints, societal expectations, and financial pressures, the participants remain highly motivated to succeed academically, driven by aspirations for better future opportunities for themselves and their children. The study underscores the importance of strong support networks and the development of targeted policies to assist student mothers in achieving both academic and personal success. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the unique experiences of student mothers in Pakistan and highlight the need for more supportive educational environments to foster their resilience and academic achievements.
