Abstract

The present study investigated the learning approaches employed by A’ Levels and Intermediate students. It also explored the relationship of learning approaches adopted by Intermediate and A’ Levels students with different aspects of identity (social, personal, and collective). Lastly, the study evaluated the relationship of learning approaches of Intermediate and A’ Levels students with critical reflection skills. The results indicated that there was a significant difference between the learning approaches of Intermediate and A’ Levels students. Students of A’ Levels adopted a deeper approach towards learning and Intermediate students adopted a more surface approach. The results also suggested that A’ Levels students had a stronger sense of personal identity as compared to Intermediate students. There was found to be a positive correlation between deep approach and personal identity and a negative correlation between surface approach and personal identity. The results also showed no significant correlation between other aspects of identity and learning approaches of Intermediate and A’ Levels students. Finally, the results indicated statistically insignificant correlation between the learning approaches of students and critical reflection skills.
