Abstract
This project explores the relation between memory, grief, and identity as experienced by Shia Muslims living in Pakistan. Both grief and memory play a critical role in the development of Shia identity, and this identity takes on a very specific set of meanings within the context of a Sunni-majority country like Pakistan. The projects intends to explore how the religious identity of Shia Muslims is developed in relation to their religious and social past, present, and future.
