Abstract

Unemployment is a major issue that the young graduates of batch of 2020 faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. The literature focuses on the impact of unemployment on the mental health of young adults and the use of coping strategies by the young adults to cope with the unemployment phase. There are very few researches carried out during COVID-19 pandemic and this research focuses on an important topic and on the asset of the society i.e. university graduates. The study aims to look at impact of unemployment on the mental health and the use of coping strategies by IBA graduates (batch of 2020- during COVID-19 pandemic). The research also aims to look at the use of coping strategies (problem and emotion focused coping strategies) used by the IBA graduates to cater the unemployment phase. In-depth semi-structured interviews were carried (n = 8; 6 men and 2 women). The interviews were manually transcribed and themes were taken out. The results showed two major themes i.e. ‘Impact on IBA graduates’ Mental Health’ and ‘Use of Different Coping Strategies by IBA Graduates.’ Several sub-themes emerged in both the main themes. Future research should focus on carrying out research on graduates from several universities/ colleges and more researches, by modifying the current research, should be carried out.
