Abstract
This study examines the determinants of household cash payment for waste collection and disposal services in Pakistan, using data from the Household Integrated Economic Survey (HIES) 2024–25. The study draws on a nationally representative sample of 30,123 house holds, out of which 5,290 households reported availing waste collection services on a cash payment basis and directly from the doorstep; this sample forms the basis for the analysis. The determinants of household waste collection payments are examined using Ordinary Least Squares (OLS), Robust Least Squares (RLS), and a Gamma Generalized Linear Model (GLM) with a log link. On average, households pay PKR 820.58 per month for waste collection and disposal services. The results show a positive relationship between household income and household waste payment. In the log-transformed specification, a 1% increase in household income is associated with a 0.069% increase in monthly house hold waste payment. Education and age of the household head are positively associated with household payment, while housing and locational characteristics also show significant associations. These findings provide updated evidence on the factors associated with household waste collection payments in Pakistan.
