Executive Summary

This research project explores the feasibility of establishing a gelatin capsule manufacturing plant in Pakistan, driven by the rapid growth of the local pharmaceutical industry. Currently, a significant portion of gelatin capsules is imported, leading to elevated costs and supply chain vulnerabilities. The proposed plant would address these challenges by reducing import dependence, conserving foreign exchange, and achieving cost efficiencies. The increasing population, rising healthcare awareness, and growing prevalence of chronic diseases in Pakistan are driving demand for pharmaceutical products, including gelatin capsules, which are favored for their ease of use and effectiveness in drug delivery.

Pakistan's competitive labor costs and availability of raw materials, such as gelatin from the agricultural sector, offer economic advantages for local production. The country's strategic location also enables access to emerging markets in South Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East, enhancing export opportunities. Additionally, government initiatives to improve the investment climate and regulatory support from the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) create a conducive environment for new manufacturing ventures.

This study aims to establish the viability of setting up a gelatin capsule manufacturing plant, considering market potential, economic benefits, regulatory conditions, and strategic location. The findings will demonstrate how this venture can generate substantial returns on investment while contributing to the growth of Pakistan's pharmaceutical sector and the global supply chain.
