Executive Summary

This study aimed to assess the potential benefits of implementation of centralized ERP system that can single handedly inculcate different processes such as finance, procurement, maintenance workflows and inventory management and creates a linkage between different functions within the organization. We have taken up the case of Gul Ahmed Energy limited where most of the processes are running manually, and workflows are not automated resulting in operational inefficiencies and delays thus presenting a sheer case for improvement and centralization with the adoption of suitable ERP system. In this growing world of automation where businesses are acquiring modern technology for enhancement of their profits and increment and expansion of their growth, it is essential to stay competitive and GAEL being a player of ever-growing energy sector where competitors like K-Electric, HUBCO and Engro are already dominating the energy sector market share through their automated and established system presents a case for movement towards centralized ERP system for GAEL that will not only optimize the existing workflows but also enhance productivity with reduced cost of manpower.

Our study also focused on the cost benefit financial analysis between implementation of centralized ERP system and its benefits reaped in the form of identifying gaps in inventory levels, assessing ghosts of duplication in inventory, and maintaining the critical assets through proactively assessing the maintenance plan with the help of ERP system which will have a huge cost saving impact and will prove to be a game changer for GAEL.

This research study used the Primary research including questionnaires and surveys to identify the loopholes in existing processes and helped us to analyze where we exactly must transform the process towards automation. Further, secondary research provided us with a baseline of energy sector players where they stand after implementation of ERP and what could be extracted from their success and growth after implementation of centralized ERP system.

Furthermore, with this research study, we extracted the benefits of automating the existing processes in GAEL and analyzed how they impacted the company’s growth in the long run.
