Executive Summary
This research paper set out to determine why is that there is such a low focus on savings in Pakistan, and when people save, what do they do with their savings and how much is put back in the economy in the form of investments in the financial market. The importance of investment in the financial markets for a country and its impact on the economy was also examined through existing literature, while also identifying factors which determine the saving and investments levels of a country. Aiming to identify the saving and investment habits of the people of Pakistan in detail, along with their perceptions and knowledge levels, it further tried to determine the reasons of low investment levels and analyze what is being done to improve this situation. The paper then reviewed the current practices/ programs in place for creating awareness among the masses and proposed suggestions for enhancement, so that the knowledge levels regarding investment avenues may be increased further and more attention may be drawn towards them.
