Executive Summary
This report aims to exhibit a comprehensive pre-feasibility analysis of the Hybrid Power Plant of 50 MW in Karachi. The major outline of this report includes an introduction to the motivation for this research project which is mainly linked with the sustainable energy supply challenge; an integral part of industries business continuity plan (BCP) and focus object of the research. Furthermore, research questions like system stability, grid continuity challenges in the absence of renewable energy sources, major factors involved in decision making of hybrid power plant along with their operational and financial feasibilities have also been answered in this work. Both primary & secondary research methodologies are being adopted and covered all aspects of qualitative research & in-depth interviews to deal with the scope of research project. In the literature review the conventional energy sources have been depicted and surrogated affordable/cost-cutting renewable energy solutions. A criterion for decision making of grid-connected hybrid renewable energy system has also been established. Visualization is given to hybrid renewable energy integration concept in underlying work of this report. Additionally, the potential of solar in Pakistan is evaluated along with the tax (tariff) determination on solar power units. Furthermore, the potential of other equally important renewable sources i.e., wind is also gauged at Jhimpir region, district in Thatta Sindh. Lastly, it has been established that renewable energy is the future of hybrid power plants due to low maintenance & zero carbon emissions.
