Executive Summary
The overall pharmaceutical industry is capable to produce a variety of drugs of curative or preventive nature. Almost all sorts of drugs to deal with every type of ailment are produced. The medicines are prepared in all forms like tablets, capsules, syrups, suspension, elixirs, injections (ampoules, vials and infusions), ointments, creams, gels etc. In the intravenous (IV) infusion soft bags production line, there seems the least competition. The major players are Outsuka Pakistan (a subsidiary of a Japanese ongin company) and MediPak. Outsuka situated in Hub, Balochistan adjacent to Karachi enjoys being the market leader with highest market share through out the country and MediPak is ranked at the runner up position, which has competitive edge of snatching substantial market share from Outsuka particularly in the Punjab province. The IV soft bag line is thriving at a very rapid pace every year by recording a 30% annual growth and it has beaten the traditional phannaceutical industry with big margin. The mainstreams or prevailing trends forecast an upward movement of demand curve. The IV soft bags products are also exported to Afghanistan. The products include soft bags so-called drips of 250ml, 500ml and 1000ml sizes comprising of products like normal sline, ringer lact. dextrose and other forms of infusion water.
