As forerunner initiative, the library section of IBA has compiled digital copies of historical materials about the history of IBA and its transition and transformation over the time. The Historical collection contains digitized documents of historical records starting from the inception of the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi.
The archives of the IBA historical documents contain a diverse collection of hand written, rare printed, photocopied, and tele printed documents. The holdings include documents related to the establishment of IBA, five-year plans, institutional manuscripts, grants, financial aids and scholarship, course outlines, IBA hostel bulletin, student societies, alumni association, pension scheme, budget and audit report, training, official visits, introduction of degree programs and casebook etc.

The proposed Master of Business Education Program

The third five-year development plan of IBA 1965-70

The Institute of Business Administration was set up by the Government of Pakistan in 1955, as a division of the University of Karachi.
In order to develop the Institute on modern lines, the government sought technical assistance from USAID in the matter of;
- Provision of American advisers,
- Training of Pakistani teachers in American universities
- Provision of an adequate library of business and allied subjects.
In the 5-year development budget of IBA , three to four million dollars have been spent on the development of the Institute in the form of technical assistance, vast sums of rupee expenditure have also been incurred to bring it to its present level of performance.

General Rules of the IBA New Leave Rules
- Leave is earned by duty. It cannot be claimed as a matter of right even when due, and if the exigencies of duty so require, an application for leave can be refused, or if leave has already been granted the remaining portion of it can be revoked and the employee can be recalled to join forthwith.
- Holidays falling within the period of any kind of leave shall be counted as leave. They may either be added at the beginning and/or at the end of the leave with the permission of the sanctioning authority.
- No leave shall be availed of unless it is actually granted, except leave applied for under emergent circumstances, proved to the satisfaction of the sanctioning authority.

On September 24, 1954 the University of Pennsylvania (USA) signed a contract with the Foreign Operation Mission of the USA, under which they sent a team to Karachi to carry out a project in the field of Business and Public Administration for the purpose of strengthening the educational, research, and consultation programmes of the University of Karachi.
This Project was to be financed from two sources.
- Funds supplied by the University of Pennsylvania
- Funds provided by the Government of Pakistan through University of Karachi

The Institute of Public and Business Administration (IPBA) was established at the University of Karachi in 1954. The Government of Pakistan (GOP) and USAID jointly financed it as a part of the Project No. 391-66-009, Inter-College Exchange. Technical services were provided by the University of Pennsylvania under a contract with A.I.D. /W dated September 24, 1954.
In fiscal year 1958 a separate Project No. 391-77-111, designated as the IPBA , was established. The University of Pennsylvania continued to provide technical services through December 31, 1959 when their contract was terminated.

The objective of the University of Karachi in organizing summer seminar for College Teacher of Commerce are primarily two;

This report represents a detailed list of the principal categories of positions secured by I.B.A graduates during the period 1957-1961. It also provides a complete list of the firms and organizations which have employed I.B.A graduates and they are;

During the five year period from 1957 to 1961, 115 students completed their course work in the Institute's full time day MBA program. Of these, 111 or 96 percent secured remunerative positions or elected to engage in advanced study programs in Pakistan or in foreign countries.

Theses Rules and General Procedure:
- Any student wishing to write a thesis should contact the thesis coordinator.
- The coordinator, after determining prima facie eligibility of the student, and the field of his interest will direct the student to meet some particular faculty member.
- An "Assignment Slip" signed by the thesis coordinator must be presented to the faculty member concerned.
- On receipt of the assignment slip, the faculty member concerned holds preliminary discussions with the student. If he is satisfied that the student can write an acceptable thesis, he signs a 3" X 5" card in duplicate prepared by the student and gives the following details in the prescribed form.
