Abstract / Description

We are gathered here today to pay homage to military martyrs who sacrificed their lives over the last two centuries, fighting as part of the armed forces of their respective countries, some of whom lie buried in this cemetery. Little over a hundred years ago, the leading allied statesman of the time said that the war that was to begin in 1914 would be "A War to End All Wars." Ladies and Gentlemen, we are all very well aware that the First World War, also referred to as the Great War, was perhaps the darkest period of our recent past and can never be forgotten.
