Murdering Women

Article Type

Article

Description

The article highlights the alarming rise in femicides in Pakistan and questions why society has normalized violence against women. Despite government initiatives, NGOs, and reserved seats for women, deep-rooted patriarchy continues to marginalize women from birth, fostering male entitlement and dominance. Cases like the murders of Noor Mukaddam, Quratul Ain, and many others illustrate how misogyny and the notion of ‘honour’ perpetuate violence. Jirgas, education systems, and cultural narratives reinforce women’s subjugation. The author calls for systemic inclusion of women in state institutions, workplaces, public spaces, and homes, urging a cultural shift where men share domestic roles and sexist portrayals end, to build a society free from gender-based violence.
