Abstract

Purpose:

In past literature, Islamic micro finance is known for its positive impact upon societal growth. Islamic microfinance promotes financial access to masses that were previously deprived of formal financial services due to lack of financial literacy, high interest rates, and conventional banking model. The purpose of this study is to enlighten pursue of sharia compliance in Islamic Microfinance Institutions to cater alleviated poverty, and stunted SMEs growth and offer high employment rates and economic stability with the evidence of published literature & implementing an analytical approach on the given dataset. This bibliometric review aims to provide a holistic view of scholarly contributions in the field of Islamic Microfinance.

Methodology:

This study follows the qualitative approach to analyses the available literature on the database of Scopus. Initially around 300 articles were filtered out from the Scopus; the technique incorporated for data collection was to search literature via keywords such as Islamic Microfinance, Sharia Finance, Financial Inclusion, Microfinance, SMEs, Poverty alleviation, & financial literacy. These were the main keywords utilized in the process of data collection. Conclusively, 156 articles were made part of the study considering the validity and reliability with the research question & research questions.

Findings:

The findings indicated the demographic details of the study including the keyword analysis, bibliographic networking, citation analysis, academic contributions, and list of most cited articles and graphical analysis of scholarly productions over the year and most potential authors. The study discusses about the practical implications of Islamic microfinance in uplifting societies and provides insightful recommendations for future research.

Limitations:

Only finalized and published article in English language, from the time span of 2007-2024 in reputed journal were included in the study. Literature that does not directly linked with the role of Islamic Microfinance was not included.
