Blockchain has become a disruptive force and innovation in today’s business world and has the changed and optimized the lifestyle and way of working of IT professionals. This technology has been widely used in developed countries in many domains as the backend implementation makes it quite easier to efficiently solve supply and demand and financial matters. Being the ledger of huge transactions that are obtained, managed and stored among all connected stakeholders, it can also serve as a reliable source of truth in agricultural sector especially related to food supply, production, smart contracts inventory and farming. It can track the transparency of data and helps in tracking provenance of food hence creating trust among un-trusted parties and consumers. Blockchain in agriculture may deliver tremendous advanced and ground-breakings solution for traceability of agricultural product, transparency, and efficient-effective productivity. Despite of having many opportunities, blockchain technology like any other technology is not that easy to adopt and implement without removing the obstacles in implementing the goal. Especially for developing countries, adapting blockchain technology in agriculture is very difficult because of numerous barriers like lack of knowledge, regulations, technological diffusion, exponential growth, resources and skills and unawareness.

In this paper, we examined and analyzed the challenges in one of the developing countries adopting a convenience sampling technique using a questionnaire and conducting a survey to the concerned audience with the main to obtain the information regarding the challenges of adopting of blockchain in Agri-tech.

This Paper also presented the advantages and rise of blockchain technology in agriculture field and mentioning revenue growth with the ease in complex processes and production in agriculture sector. The results are evident enough to show that despite of the numerous advantages and opportunities available to be implemented in agriculture, there is a complete lack of knowledge about the definition and uses of blockchain in agricultural field as majority are less aware of what exactly blockchain. The priority of implementation of blockchain technologies in agriculture is kept low and there’s not a single regulation related to adaption of blockchain in agriculture and there are not proper inventories available neither any agency or development industry is working towards blockchain in agriculture and it is clear that for next 4-5 years this will remain a dream.

As this paper only focused on one of the cities with associated audience, it is recommended that further research is required to be conducted nationwide along with the executive attention towards making of rules to achieve this success.


This survey covers research in one of the developing countries city having agriculture as the backbone and considered to have fertile lands and presents barriers in the way of adoption of blockchain in agri-tech and preventing the public and private sector to shift their dynamics towards blockchain. Considering the fact of the broad research room, it is highly recommended to extend this study to other cities and other developing countries involving farmers. Production industries, researchers in agriculture fields, agricultural institutions to shadow over more challenges and overcoming from these barriers by making strategic planning and implantation having experts and increasing skill set and training programs.

Having said so, executive needs to take this as top most priority considering the advancement in technologies with ample of uses to reduce time, cost and making more growth and for this purpose a solid legislature is required.
