Executive Summary

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, anchored by economic powerhouses like the UAE and Saudi Arabia, is undergoing significant economic transformation. This shift has created job opportunities which in result has spurred an escalating demand for dairy products due to increasing population of these countries, prompting investments in dairy and livestock farms leading to greater demand of fodder products from various countries. Pakistan can benefit from this shift by utilizing its potential of production of Rhodes Grass and Alfalfa Hay and gain major market share. However, challenges such as water scarcity and adverse weather conditions pose obstacles to the livestock feed supply chain. Pakistan, endowed with abundant agricultural resources and diplomatic ties, emerges as a prospective contributor, positioned to supply high-quality dairy and livestock products to the burgeoning markets of the UAE and Saudi Arabia. This research paper addresses the imperative to gauge the market demand for Rhodes grass and Alfalfa hay in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, aiming to establish an efficient supply chain from Pakistan. Research questions delve into the current market size, sources of fodder products, existing supply chain models, and the competitive advantages of Pakistani products. The study's objectives encompass determining market demand, identifying challenges in cultivating fodder products in Pakistan, and proposing a sustainable supply chain model for exporting to the UAE and Saudi Arabia. By addressing these objectives, the research aims to furnish valuable insights for the successful introduction of Pakistani fodder products into the dynamic markets of the Gulf region. This comprehensive market analysis delves into the demand for Rhodes Grass and Alfalfa hay in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, revealing substantial potential for Pakistan's forage exports. With a livestock count in the UAE of 103,102 cattle and 497,524 camels, and an annual market demand for forage products reaching 3.4 million tons, Pakistan's current exports of only 100,000 tons signify a significant opportunity for expansion. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia, amidst a ban on fodder production, anticipates an additional demand of 825,000 tons annually, estimated at 250 million USD. Pakistan stands poised to tap into this burgeoning market.
