Executive Summary

In this paper the capital requirement of the banks in Pakistan in relation to the various circulars issued by the SBP in this regard, is discussed followed by the discussion over the capital generated by the banks through the equity injection and the capital generated through debt instruments. Discussion about whether overall capital adequacy ration of 10% required to be maintained by SBP is sufficient in Pakistan's perspective.

A primary research was carried out , this included interviews with personals within the banking fraternity. Other mediums such as internet, financial statement of banks , SBP circulars and websites were also used to gather relevant information.
