Executive Summary

Information Technology (IT) also known as Information and Communication Technology ICT has revolutionized modern banking and their services. The competition between the banks is increasing to gain business as the customers are becoming more tech savvy and there demand from a bank is not just limited to being reliable and stable but they also want their bank to provide them with the latest banking services such as ATMs, Credit and Debit Cards, Online Banking, Electronic Fund Transfer, Internet Banking and Even Mobile Banking. Providing these services without a robust, and an up to date Information and Communication Technology Platform is not possible for the banks. However the dilemma that the banks are facing is that the Information and Communication Technology has undergone through the innovation phase at an extremely rapid pace over the past two decades. It is continuously improving and changing at a pace which the banks are unable to keep up with both in term of ICT hardware and software solution as well as skilled Human Resources. Therefore Banks have to make huge Capital Investment (Cap-Ex) as well as Operational Expense (Op-Ex) in order to keep abreast with the latest Technology.

Additionally the banking industry is highly competitive with a very All the banks now have the almost more or less the same products. The banks needs distinguish feature in order to catch business and at the same time keeping loyal to them. These distinguish features mainly revolve around the narrow error to have some their customers service delivery. The service delivery depends highly upon the efficiency of IT systems to deliver those services. Cloud based IT services is one of the possible solution to this to this dilemma which would enable the banks not only to cope with the latest technological developments at a lower cost but at the same time would give them the competitive

advantage over its counterparts in terms of both lower operational cost, better service continuity and improved disaster recovery procedures allowing them toward their core competencies and business. at a lower cost but at the same time would give them the competitive delivery, business to focus more to word more competencies and business.

In the first part of this dissertation we would examine the possibility of migration on Cloud based IT services for the banks that whether the technology is mature enough to adept benefits or reasons for migration on cloud computing and challenges in adopt. Some major - opting for cloud based services. Banks senior management, senior IT professionals and

experts from Vendors/service provider would provide their critical analysis on the subject via Questionnaire, Online Survey and Interviews/Survey.

In the second part of the dissertation I'll explain the step wise implementation/migration on cloud computing in National Bank of Pakistan.

In this dissertation we will also make a comparison between the conventional IT models and the cloud based IT models. In the end the benefits that National bank will have after the implementation of these cloud based models are explained in detail.
